So I went to Coggin Ford after visiting several dealerships here in Ga. I told them up front that I was not happy that every dealership I had been to had tried to rip me off on my trade. I was trading in a 2017 Ford F250 with less than 100k miles on it and had checked Edmonds, Kelly Blue Book and NADA and knew my truck was worth between $38-42k in the condition it was in for trade. I had told them that I knew better than to use the retail value and had only used the trade in value and if they tried to do me the same way I would walk out on them, the same way I had the others. They assured me that they wouldn't, so I gave them a try. I found a truck at a sister dealership and they said they would be happy to bring it to me in Ga, do all the paperwork and take my trade from there. When I got to the dealership, I found out they would not bring the truck to me in Ga, but that once they got it from their sister dealership, I would have to come back to Florida and pick it up. I did not care for this, but it's only a 2hr drive, so not a deal breaker. The salesman I worked with was... ok, to be very nice. He did not seem to really know what he was doing and did not communicate well with the used car manager my requests for the deal. When he first came back with their offer they only offered me $32k for my truck, I only owed $37k on the truck and knew I wasn't up side down in the truck, not alone $5k up side down. I told him this was the exact reason I had left the other places, I told him I had made that clear to him before coming in and that I would NOT be taking any less than payoff for my truck. I thanked him for his time and got up to leave. He asked me to stay for a few min.. and asked exactly what I needed to make the deal. After looking over the numbers they had and what I knew my truck was worth, I came back with $29500otd, this was quite a bit less than what they had come up with, but honestly all it did was give me $37750 for my truck, took nothing off of their request for the truck I was looking at. To me that seemed to be a fair deal. The increase in value of my truck got rid of the mark ups in dealer prep, taxes etc., so I wasn't asking for the world. All I wanted was fair value for my truck. I even told them with the shape my truck was in (I had washed and detailed it before bringing it in), they could put it on the lot right now for $45k and have it sold before the end of the day. Of course they gave me 100 reasons why they couldn't do that, but it is exactly what they did. It was sold before my truck arrived for $45390. Anyway, they countered with an offer $611.56 higher than what I told them I would pay. I told him thank you very much, sorry for wasting his time and started for the door. He said wait, you will really lose this truck over $611? I responded with you will really lose this sale over $611? As I was about to get back ion my truck the salesman and used car manager came out the door and stopped me. The used car manager asked what was going on, as he was under the impression that id he got close to my payoff I was good with the deal (see above on communication between the salesman and manager). I told him I'm not sure what he was told, but that I told the salesman the exact number that I wanted to be at and he was close, but still off and he did not seem to want to work any further to get the price right. The used car manager asked me what the number was, I told him, he asked if I was going to be financing with him, I told him I did not care who he used as I have great credit and financing wouldn't be a problem and he said he would get it figured out at my number. I questioned, out the door? No hidden fees? I will only sign if it is EXACTLY $29500 being financed. He assured me that it would be exactly that otd. We shook and started the paperwork. I would have normally given them a 2 or 3 star review based on the service I had received up to this point. They had mislead me on where the truck would be delivered to, undervalued my trade, were snooty when I said I would not take their second offer etc. I was really getting in my truck to leave. It is the service I received after this that got them the boost in ratings and the reason I would come back and send others there. While doing the paperwork, we found out that the dealership I bought my trade in at, completely messed up and because of it, I almost lost the new truck. The finance department, used car manager and salesman went above and beyond to get my paperwork sorted out, paperwork they had not messed up, to get me into this truck. What should have taken an hour at most, turned into a whole day long ordeal, with all of the people they had to call, paperwork they had to sort, things they had to juggle etc. I really felt bad for everything they had to go through to correct the mistakes that the original dealership had messed up. If that wasn't bad enough, when my truck arrived from the sister dealership, it was not in the shape it was described as on their website. It was actually undrivable. Coggin apologized over and over, for something they had no way of knowing was wrong and fixed everything that was wrong, before I left with the truck, this did include me having to come back to Jacksonville 2 more times, but they kept going until everything was fixed at no expense to me. They fixed the transmission, computer, throttle body and paint, like I said it was undrivable when it arrived from their sister store. They really did a great job. I wish I could give them 5 stars because of how well they did on fixing the paperwork mess ups by the original dealership and the mechanical and cosmetic issues they had no way of knowing about, but the way the salesman handled the initial sale is what puts me off 5 stars.
