I am writing to express my extreme disappointment with the way I have been treated by CubeSmart management.Last month, my credit card on file expired without my realizing it. As soon as I was notified, I immediately went to your office, updated my payment information, and paid the outstanding balance. The payment was only about 15 days overdue, yet I was assessed a $300 late fee. I considered that excessive, but I paid it.That incident convinced me it was time to move out.On Thrusday july 9 I notified the office in person that I would be vacating both of my units by July 15. In reality, I completed the move even sooner. By July 11, both units were completely empty and broom clean.Despite this, on July 16, my credit card was charged $1,534 for another month’s rent on both units.I immediately went to the office and spoke with Brad. He acknowledged that he knew we had already moved out because he had personally placed one of your locks on one of the units after we vacated. We then walked to both units together and confirmed they were completely empty.Even with this confirmation, your supervisor refused to reverse the charges. Instead, I was told I would only receive a partial refund and would still be charged as though I had vacated on July 16, including an additional day’s prorated rent. That is not only petty—it is completely unjustified. Your staff knew the units had been vacated days earlier.What makes this even more disappointing is that I was a customer for nearly two years and consistently paid my rent on time, with the exception of the single incident involving my expired credit card, which I corrected immediately. That history apparently meant nothing.I still have one smaller unit at your facility, but after this experience I will be moving that one as soon as I find another storage location.I do want to acknowledge that Brad handled the situation professionally. He was courteous, apologetic, and did everything he could within the limits of his authority. Unfortunately, management’s actions overshadowed his efforts.Going forward, whenever someone asks me for a recommendation for a storage facility, I will not recommend CubeSmart. I have done business with Manhattan Mini Storage for many years, and the difference in customer service and fairness is remarkable. In my experience, they set the standard that CubeSmart has failed to meet.
