I was a customer at CubeSmart for a long time and I used it the one in Peachtree City, GA (2016-2020) and last one is in Frisco, TX (12250 Eldorado Pkwy) since Fall 2024. I never had an issue with CubeSmart until the ice storm passed through at the end of January 2026 and apparently, the store manager, Abi can't explain why there was flooded in the hallway where my storage unit (along with 3 or 4 more units) was. My unit was #1101. She thinks it was from the ice outside on the road that eventually melted and slowly went inside (under the door frame) that caused flooded. It went into my unit and damaged my 6 boxes that were on the ground. I was notified as soon as possible, but of course I couldn't make to the unit immediately because I was out of state, but one of my friends was able to get in there that weekend. My friends moved my surviving boxes and bins into a different unit for a short period of time. Fast forward, Abi gave me information about filing a claim so I proceeded and filed a clam with an insurance adjuster. The experience with an insurance (Fortegra) was upsetting and I'm still distraught from the result. I lost a lot of books, movies, DVDs, CDs, etc that clearly can be replaced, but the insurance adjuster already declined my claim. I did show her photos and clips of the storage unit where the flooded took place and photos of items that were damaged in there. I told her what happened based on what Abi told me and part of the final decision said there was no evidence or any sort of support to the flood since it was "not a natural disaster" or "pipe burst, etc." That made me so upset because why would I move my stuff into a storage unit wet to begin with - of course not. It was not my fault or anyone's fault. Ice storm is a natural disaster. I really encourage CubeSmart not to use Fortegra for insurance again! In fact, please look into such as State Farm or better insurance companies that would not treat their customers so poorly!I spoke to Abi about the result and she apologized several times, I asked her if she could contact the insurance adjuster. She asked her district manager, Art (I believe that's his name) if they could get involved, but he said they can't due to the third party policy which is discouraging! She said that Art would call me and talk to me personally on March 9th, but he never did. Pretty disappointing. Finally, I decided to return to Frisco, TX on March 13th and collected my stuff, and moved them back with me to Florida.I can't believe I spent so much money towards to a storage unit for a long time just to get this poor result at the end.
