I was with Lakeview Self Storage since they opened and was very happy with them. The manager, Jeanine, was great, and the other employee there (I don't remember his name) is also very nice.Lakeview Self Storage let me pay 2 years in advance, and it froze my rate. Over the years, my rate was raised once, or maybe twice, but not by much, and my new rate would take effect when it was time for me to pay again.When Cube Smart took over, about 6 months ago, I wasn't even notified, and had been prepaid for a few more months.It wasn't until I walked in one day, and saw a new manager there, and was informed that my Cube Smart had taken over a couple of months before that, and I learned that my rent had gone up AND, my account was retroactively being charged for insurance. Being back charged for insurance I didn't even want and didn't know I had. That's when I also learned my rate went up! Had I not walked in, I would never had known this, as I was NEVER informed of the new ownership, new rules, and new rates.And to make matters worse, a month after that, I got a post card in the mail, that my rent was going up AGAIN, on May 1st, and I didn't even receive that postcard until around April 6th, which is less than 30 days notice.Similar things happened to a friend of mine that I had recommended, who had been using her storage unit for about 2 years. In my friend's case, she was back charged the insurance, and she already has insurance through her home owner's insurance that is MUCH more than that pitiful policy your company makes us take.The new manager didn't even tell her she could use her homeowner's insurance.Your new manager is awful. Under this new manager, the trash cans aren't even emptied on the floors. The trash can by the elevator on the 4th floor has been full with the same stuff in it for over a week.My friend and I moved out to a better place, with more room, cheaper rates, and a clean bathroom (unlike the dirty bathroom at Cube Smart.)We are both out of there and happy with our new storage, which allows us to pre-pay.While spending a lot of time at Cube Smart to move out, I ran across other long time customers of Lakeview Storage who are very unhappy with the new management and prices.I have recommended them to the new storage place my friend and I are using, and they are planning on also moving out.I also had 24 hour access with Lakeview Self Storage, at no extra charge. I worked overseas for 5 of the years I was a customer, so I was only home about every 6 months to a year, so I had a limited time at home, so when I was home, at least I could get to my stuff if I needed to.I personally visited almost 10 storage places in the area to find a facility, and am happy with my new place
