I doubt there is enough space to tell you all the reasons we moved. If you are truly interested in improving your facility, you will want a more detailed evaluation, including suggestions that would have kept us and others from leaving. After 23 years, our rig, custom built to specifications, has never lived, in its life, anywhere other than bay 124, and for about 19 of those years it was a great facility. The managers Cube Smart hired when you took over have not represented your company well. Although we paid for a locked, secured facility, your new managers started out by keeping the secured gate open all the time. When several of us complained, we were told it was broken. Even if it was, their job was to fix it, not to dismiss the customers who were concerned for safety. Then, immediately, the spaces occupied by the live in management were used for a collection of vehicles in various states of disrepair. Not one or two, but like 8-10, often double parked in the fire lane, and their units’ roll up doors left open, and crammed full of junk for all to see… clearly visible from River Oakes Blvd, so the whole facility looked like a place for junkers and scuzzbags to hang out. That doesn’t create an environment that looks like security is a priority. This year they replaced the surface paving. Good for them. They closed the facility to do it, so if you needed your rig, too bad for you. Last year there was a series of breakins and thefts. I don’t know of anyone who expected the facility to be financially responsible for the lost property, but when police were involved, your managers were curiously uncooperative with the detectives investigating the thefts. The stolen property weren't small personal items in the units, but of vehicles and rv’s. It wouldn’t have cost anything to cooperate with the police, unless maybe they had something to hide. They refused to allow FWPD view security video, demanding a warrant for the police to see the videos. Then, curiously, oops!, the video mysteriously dropped off the memory, because they stalled so long and did nothing to preserve it, and couldn’t have cared less. BTW, the top secret video they were so protective of was of an area that was clearly visible from the public street. The same street where anyone in the public can see all their junk and broken down cars. It made us wonder if the managers were somehow connected to the thieves. A few months ago, we found an arrow shot through the wall of our bay and into a bin of our things, barely missing our rig. We thank goodness that it missed, because I can tell you who wouldn’t care one way or another that it happened. The icing on the cake is the constant rate increases. As soon as CubeSmart showed up, open the flood gates for the increases. We tolerated them for a long time, and might have continued to do so, but for the worry we began to have because of the bad management. Every time we went to the facility for any reason, we would be so relieved that our rig was still there. When we would pack for a trip, in the back of our mind we were hoping we wouldn’t get to the facility and find that all the shopping and cooking and packing we did for a fun time away was wasted because our rig was stolen. That isn’t normal. You should know, since we moved, that thought hasn’t crossed our mind even one time. The new space is the same size, covered, with power, and unbelievable clean. No jacked up cars, no open doors to the junky manager’s units. Our new rate, is 1/3 of the rate CubeSmart extorted from us, yes, 1/3! and is a locked in rate for a reasonable time. The new manager could not have been more friendly or helpful. Not like we’re accustomed to at all. We were loyal to this facility for a long time, even though, in the last few years, it was totally unwarranted, and certainly not appreciated. We don’t regret leaving CubeSmart even a little bit, but it would have been easy for your management to keep us there, simply by doing their job. With regard to the following question #4, all answers apply, except our new facility is a little bit farther away. It is well worth the few extra miles for the better and safer facility. It’s too bad keeping us as customers wasn’t important to the property manager, or apparently to whoever at CubeSmart corporate is responsible for retention.

The storage industry in general is not so much about keeping peoples' items safe & sound; but rather it's more about making as much money from the customers as possible. There's just no integrity in that sorta business.
