At the appointed time of the call, I was running all over the place dealing with many issues on many fronts, and the last thing I needed to hear was that "your 10am phone appointment called and is ready to go..." I begrudgingly phoned her back a few minutes later, trying my best not to sound spun out. Jenny's pleasant demeanor and extended small talk took me right into the place I needed to be to have a productive meeting. Normally I would say that we spent too much time on the small talk, but at that moment, I needed a few extra minutes of "wind-down" to focus on the call, and either she sensed that or did so out of habit. Either way, after a few minutes of discussing our holiday experiences and plans, I was ready to get to business.
