This was the first time I had to request assistance from HomeServe. Coverage is on a single family rental home adjacent to our summer home. I received a telephone call from my tenant last Thursday that his wife had smelled gas and that they had contacted SEMCO. A Semco technician checked the house and advised that there was a gas leak of unknown origin. Gas was turned off and tenant was advised to contact a service company. I immediately called Home Serve for assistance. I provided direction that contact needed to be made with my tenant ASAP and contact information was provided to Home Serve. No contact was made. I had to call again and request service. On Friday, tenant advised that they called HomeServe for status and was informed that Home Serve was having difficulty finding a service agent in the residence area. Saturday morning, still no contact. Later Saturday morning, tenant called me to advise HomeServe called them and advised repair tech would be there within 2 hours. One hour later I received a call from HomeServe advising me that no tech were available and that there would be no service call until Monday. I advised HomeServe rep that my tenant had received a phone call advising that a service tech would be there within 2 hours. I also advised that contact was to be made directly with the tenant. He was unaware of the appointment and contact direction. A Tech rep did arrive at the house that morning along with the same SEMCO service technician. After checking the house they determined that here was no gas leak and that the odor previously detected may have been sewer gas. The house had been unoccupied for about 2 months although cleaning and handymen had been in for cleanup and minor repairs. Gas was turned back on. Tenant was advised to flush bleach in all drains. The property is on a septic service and the use of bleach defeats the process in a septic system. I am not happy with the response and lack of communication between HomeServe representatives. I have not received any additional reports from the Tenant indicating gas odors.
