Well, it’s now more than a year after the first airbag recall notice, and we got the repair done last week – a few days after Jim Ellis VW admitted to a) knowing how to fix the recall and b) having the parts in stock and c) at the same time (bonus). Certainly it's at least been less than 18 months of living with the threat of being impaled by our wonderful Passat if we were lucky enough to be in an accident that deployed the air bag. I have loved VW’s for years (having bought most of one for each of our daughters’ college graduations), only to find our younger daughter caught owning a TDI Golf (can you say “scandal”?) and us with our “shrapnel-mobile” Passat. As much as I’d love a Golf Sportwagen to replace my 2006 Volvo V50 at some point, it’s going to be really tough to buy another VW after our collective experiences with Volkswagen. Yes, we think (hope?) this service was done as expected, but, well, see above....

Kennesaw is not the nearest VW dealership to my address (that would be Peachtree Industrial Bvd), but it had the best inventory for my search. That led me to investigate the Kennesaw location in person. I was greeted upon arrival and given warm and friendly attention. Questions were answered and tips were given concerning my initial choice and other potential choices for a new ride. I ended up buying a 2017 VW Passat R-line (new) although I had gone to inspect/view/testdrive a pre-owned 2016 VW Passat R-line. Sales rep Mr. Fitzpatrick was the one who welcomed me and guided me through the purchase process. He was very friendly, not pushy and let us (my wife was there as well) take our time with the decision to purchase new vs. pre-owned and to trade in our older VW Jetta. The only other interaction was with a gentleman working in the finance section. He, too, was very nice and helpful.
