Formal Complaint – Incorrect Diagnosis and Unsafe Repair Work on My Vauxhall CorsaDear Lookers Liverpool Customer Service Team,I am writing to raise a formal complaint regarding the recent experience I have had with Lookers Liverpool concerning my Vauxhall Corsa (2020, 1.2L). I am extremely disappointed with the service received and concerned about both the safety implications and the costs I have incurred as a result.Several weeks ago, the engine management light appeared on my vehicle. I took it to a reputable independent garage, where I have always had my car serviced, for a diagnostic. They advised me to contact the dealership from which I purchased the car — Lookers Liverpool — as the issue appeared to be an engine fault, and they specifically recommended that I take it to a Vauxhall dealership.I promptly booked an appointment with Lookers Liverpool. Upon arrival, I was informed that a diagnostic would need to be carried out by Vauxhall, despite the car having already undergone one. I was charged £177 for this diagnostic. Following this, I was advised that the timing belt had swelled and cracked, requiring replacement. From my understanding and research, the 2020 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2L has known issues relating to premature timing belt failure and engine faults. My car has done less than 30,000 miles, and therefore, such a failure is highly unusual and suggests a potential manufacturing defect.I was informed that the repair could not be carried out for two weeks, but I was assured it was safe to continue driving the car until the appointment. As I am not a mechanic, I trusted this professional advice. I was also told that if my service history and oil type were correct, Vauxhall might accept liability for the repair. I provided full service history, and while your team claimed the oil type used in 2024 was incorrect, I later discovered that the oil used was in fact compatible with the vehicle and that the oil specification had only recently been changed. The repair cost me approximately £750 (£400 labour and £350 parts). I expected this would resolve the problem. However, upon collecting my vehicle, the engine light remained on. I contacted Lookers Liverpool immediately and was told that the light would reset itself within a few days and that it was safe to continue driving.A week later, my car was taken for its regular MOT and service at my usual garage. They contacted me urgently to inform me that there was **no oil in the car at all**, which likely explained why the engine light had not gone off. I was appalled, as the car had supposedly received a “complimentary vehicle health check” from Lookers Liverpool, where the oil level had been marked as satisfactory. My garage replaced the oil, and since then, the engine light has remained off. This raises extremely serious concerns:* The issue appears to have been misdiagnosed by Lookers Liverpool.* I have paid around £750 for a repair that was unnecessary or at least incorrectly managed.* I was advised to continue driving a vehicle that had **no oil**, which could have led to catastrophic engine damage or even a serious accident.Given these facts, I believe I have been charged for a repair that may not have been required and that the service I received from Lookers Liverpool fell far below the standard expected of a main dealership.I would appreciate a **full investigation** into this matter, including:1. A detailed explanation of why the oil level was not checked or replaced during the timing belt repair.2. A review of whether the timing belt replacement was necessary in the first place.3. Confirmation of whether Vauxhall will cover the cost of the repair, given the widespread reports of timing belt issues in this model.4. Information on how I can escalate this complaint further if necessary (for example, to Vauxhall UK or the Motor Ombudsman). Please confirm receipt of this email and advise me on the next steps. I look forward to your prompt response.Kind regards.

The service i received was excellent. Katy on Service reception was very professional and welcoming. Having run a number of car dealerships before i retired i believe good service is extremely important and that is what I received. 10 out of 10.Many Thanks. On 7 Nov 2025 12:02, Liverpool Vauxhallwrote:

My car was taken into Liverpool on Sunday 26th October power had gone and we were told it was a manufacturing fault by RAC we were told someone would call us on the Monday 27th nothing we had to call them to be told there was only 6 staff out of 11 so my car would not be looked at till 4 th Nov , no curtsy car available, I drive for a living so I rely on my car, for 10 days I had to borrow a car as you still couldn't find me a car which is unacceptable, I was told my car would be ready Friday 7th then Saturday 8th no call, and when I have called again today it is still in the garage , if I don't have my car back today , ready for tomorrow, you may aswell keep it as I will no longer have a job to pay for it, I told the lady I am still in my probation of my job and if I can't get to work this week I will not have a job to pay for the car, I think it is utter madness that a big company like yours can't get a car fixed and no emergency at all. Aftercare does not exist, I bought my car from use I told sales what I need it for , and less then 10 months it's broken. I need an update by 12 pm and my car back today , if I want to keep my job I need to be out on the road from tomorrow, if not I will not need the car from one very unhappy customer

Okay, i purchased the car in January. Was told that the car would be topped up with fuel (which i was charged £20.00 for) & the car would be serviced before i picked it up. I also was sold the RAC platinum warranty in which i was told if there were any issues to come back and it would be taken care of under the warrantyAround early september, my engine management light came on. So i scheduled a check with the onsite servicing department to the eye watering cost of £187 (roughly), I was then told the reason the light was coming on is the car had no oil in it.So if the car was serviced, how was the car to have NO OIL in it not even 12 months after its apparent "service" date. There was no leak, no problems, nothing. So in short that car was NOT serviced prior to my purchase as your sales person has led me to believe. The total bill for an oil top up was around £210 which is absolutely ludicrous. If your service department had actually done their job i wouldn't have had to fork out that money which was an absolute robbery, I have made it an aim for anyone that is looking for a car to not go to any of your showrooms. The trust has been fully abused & the only reason i am sending in a complaint now is because its only just settled in how badly I've been treated.Oh and the service department didn't put the fuel in my car either when i purchased it, the fuel warning light was on upon pickup

I purchased an Audi A3 (Registration LO70VKC) at the beginning of May 2025 from Lookers, Derby Road, Bootle, Liverpool. I noticed an issue with the vehicle when driving it away almost immediately- there was a creaky noise within the car that would happen at different stages of driving, including reversing, going over bumps, changing gears etc. I raised this with Lookers straightaway and they had it in their garage on three separate occasions and each time stated they couldn’t find anything wrong with the vehicle. I was still hearing the noise and knew something wasn’t right. I took the vehicle to an independent garage at the beginning of August 2025 called Arch motors in Runcorn. They found a fault almost immediately stating that the fault was to do with the mechatronics and there was a fault under the gearbox which connects to the driveshaft which was causing the noise I was hearing. I relayed this information back to Lookers who again said they couldn’t find a fault in this location when they looked at the vehicle again afterwards. The vehicle then went to Audi Liverpool for inspection who found the same fault as the garage in Runcorn and stated the mechatronics needed repairing. Audi have since quoted Lookers £5000 to repair this fault. Audi stated they couldn’t be 100% sure that the fault is what would be causing the creaky noise as the noise was intermittent. However, this was the only fault found within the vehicle so it is obvious that’s what is causing the noise and regardless there is a fault that needs repairing costing £5000. Lookers have refused to pay to repair this fault and since then offered me a 2 year warranty on the vehicle for ‘peace of mind’. I have told Lookers I am not willing to accept the vehicle back unrepaired and that I refuse to drive it with a fault, potentially putting myself and other road users at risk. This fault if left unrepaired can cause numerous damage to other parts of the vehicle and cause the vehicle to stop harshly etc at any point and potentially even fail completely which in my opinion is not safe so I don’t understand why as a company you would advise me to still drive the vehicle just so you don’t have to pay the £5000 repair cost. I have since contacted my finance company regarding this issue and reported yourselves to Trading Standards. I have openly told Lookers if they pay for Audi to repair the vehicle then I’m more than happy to accept it back but ultimately I have been sold a faulty car so it needs repairing or bought back by Lookers.Lookers have had my car at one stage for 4 weeks and this time they currently have it and it has been with them for over 9 weeks, all this time I have still been paying my monthly instalments for the vehicle when I have not been in possession of it. I have never known anything like this and feel I may have taken advantage of being a young female purchasing a vehicle. Their communication with me whilst having my vehicle this amount of time has been pretty much non existent and I have had to constantly chase them and ask for updates. As a company, I’ve never dealt with anyone more unprofessional and never heard anything or experienced anything quite like this before when purchasing a used car.I just want the vehicle repairing by Audi so I can have it back and enjoy my car or for Lookers to accept the car back from me and reimburse me for costs I’ve paid so far as you have sold me faulty goods. If Lookers buy the car back from me you’re going to have to pay for the fault to be fixed regardless before it can be re sold anyway so I don’t understand why it just wouldn’t be repaired to save yourselves as a company time and money. If the car is bought back by Lookers I guarantee I will ensure that it is publicised that no body purchases the vehicle as it is damaged and it would be wrong of Lookers to try and re sell a faulty car to another customer.I look forward to hearing back from you regarding this issue I’ve been experiencing for 6 months now.Kind Regards,Amy Roberts07951515244

The sales person was very helpful. I was unsure on my recent PCP contract that I had taken out with a different garage and he took the patience and time to talk me through it, talking through my options available to me as I wanted to come out of the PCP.Once I had the information at hand and understood it, I decided against changing my vehicle but I will not hesitate to make sure that I come back here to buy by next car due to the personal customer service that was given
