car viewed was in need of preparation in order for the customer to see past defects. Mercedes Wolverhampton insisted on knowing customer National Insurance numbers for unaccompanied test drives. This meant only one of us was able to drive. We have not experienced this request at other Mercedes dealers including Shrewsbury (also Lookers). The sales rep was unable to clarify why our NI numbers were required other than to say it was company policy.
