Our son has Type 1 Diabetes and depends on constant medication and medical devices to live. Last year, the prescription coverage made those essentials manageable-specifically, the Dexcom G7 was covered as a Tier 3 medication with an affordable copay. We paid less than $200 per quarter.In 2026, under a very similar plan, the Dexcom G7 remains Tier 3, but there is no financial assistance until we meet a $4,000 prescription deductible. This has increased our cost to approximately $1,100 per quarter. For what is essentially the same coverage, this is a significant and unexpected financial burden.I understand that Select Health does not set the price of the Dexcom. However, coverage decisions directly impact whether families can consistently access it. For children with Type 1 Diabetes, continuous glucose monitoring is not optional-it is essential for safe, daily management.Consistent use of CGMs like the Dexcom G7 is associated with improved A1C levels (often by 0.5-1.0%), which reduces the risk of serious and costly complications. For example, a single hospitalization for diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) can cost $20,000-$30,000-far exceeding the annual cost of CGM coverage. Better glucose control also lowers the likelihood of long-term complications such as kidney disease, vision loss, and cardiovascular conditions, all of which carry substantial lifetime costs.When access to CGMs becomes financially out of reach, the risk of acute events and long-term complications increases-ultimately leading to higher overall costs for both families and the insurance provider.I urge you to reevaluate how the Dexcom G7 is covered under plans like ours. Supporting consistent access is both a life-preserving measure for patients and a financially responsible decision for Select Health.Thank you for your time and consideration.
