My first visit to the office was not a comfortable experience. I noted in my chart that I have dental anxiety due to a previous bad experience. The assistant who took my X-rays did ask me about it, which I appreciated, but overall I didn’t feel that easing anxiety or explaining procedures was part of the office culture. Aside from that initial interaction, no one explained what they were doing during the appointment, which made the visit more stressful for me.At checkout, my treatment plan and insurance details were discussed out loud in front of other patients. This included information about my benefits and what I would have to pay out of pocket. It felt very uncomfortable and lacked privacy.The environment felt cold, and I didn’t feel welcomed or reassured. In past dental offices, staff have taken time to explain procedures and discuss treatment plans privately, which helps me feel calm and informed. Because of these issues, I decided not to return for my follow-up appointment.
