Dear Brittney, Thank you for your response. I just want to be clear, I realize that this isnt Visiting Angels' fault. Nor the caregiver's. And I would hope the caregiver gets absolutely NO retaliation for saying something if caregiver comes forward, as their only violation is caring for these clients. I have heard these stories many times throughout the years from several other friends who have worked as caregivers there, and at other places as well. I just honestly felt it was time to just ask about it. The caregiver has been a long time employee and said this is honestly "normal". Caregiver did not give out any information about the client, other than home was infested. I'm just thinking, where is the family? If no family, why have previous caregivers not reported this? For my own information, when something like this does get reported, who exactly is contacted? Social services? What department? I would like to know who you all actually contact when a client's home is unsuitable for living? And/or when a client's home *is* still suitable but just needs services like pest control? And if they don't have family or if the family can't afford it, who pays for it? Caregiver isn't wild about coming forward for fear of retaliation, getting fired, getting attitude. And sadly, I know this happens so I can't blame caregiver. I think just be aware this is happening if you weren't already and take action if a home is reported as infested or unsuitable. These caregivers have to sit in that as well and many of them have children at home. Roaches and other pests carry diseases. It's so unhealthy and unsanitary to expect someone to sit in that for hours. And honestly, even $40 an hour wouldn't be enough. There has got to be a way to help ensure the clients have better conditions to live in and that the caregivers have better working conditions. Think about if your parents or grandparents were living like that and no one said anything for fear of backlash. If my family member were in those conditions.... well, they would NOT be, I'll just say that. But if they were and I did find out someone knew and didn't tell me or try to get help, we'd have a big problem. I know there's a high turnover there - or lack of suitable # of employees - honestly, this has to be one of the reasons. I would rather flip burgers or clean toilets all my life than be in a roach infested home, would you not? Not being hateful, just honest. And trying to invoke thoughtfulness. Maybe if this were corrected, that would get better. Rant over. Thank you for hearing me out. We are very willing to help with this. Unfortunately I can't help if I don't know who the client is so that I can help get the resources to assist them. Please have our caregiver reach out to me here at the office 325-437-9500 so that I can help her asap!

Hello, this is just to report that someone I know works for you and the houses she's being sent to are horrifying. Big, nasty, 2-3 inch long roaches/water bugs, tiny baby roaches everywhere in the pantry and all over the counters, food, furniture, beds, bathroom, everywhere. How can these elderly people live like this and how can the Visiting Angels caregivers be expected to work in conditions like that, especially for the small amount they get paid ? What can she do? Who does she report this to? Where are the families? This is an atrocity! I want an email response but pls don't ask me her name or the person she works for. Just tell me how can she report these living conditions - to whom? Would it do any good for her to tell you? What would you do? Do you know about this already? I feel these elderly people are being neglected and left to rot in these disgusting conditions. A child living like this would be reported to CPS!!!

This is Michael, a son of a client of Visiting Angels in Abilene. Those folks have been a joy to work with as my dad moved into a retirement home. Our caregiver had been more than we ever imagined and dad is thrilled with everything. Thank you for helping us help Dad from hours away...there are some very special people there.
