I brought my 6 month old for a same day appointment due to cough, congestion and a fever around 101. They were short staffed, which I can sympathize with, especially in the medical field, so the provider did my daughter’s weight and temperature. She listened to her lungs and said they sounded clear but couldn’t be for sure since it’s hard to tell under 12 months, which again, I understand. Her pulse ox was not taken. The provider brought up the fact that my daughter was not vaccinated and therefore, could not really tell me what was wrong. She could not tell if it was from a secondary infection from the colds the household had a few weeks prior or something new like HIB, menegitis, etc. a Covid, flu or RSV swab were not offered nor recommended. I was just told if she has a hard time breathing or goes about 102 to take her to ER, which one would think was common knowledge. My daughter had an appointment today for her 6 month check up with a provider we generally see. She immediately offered a pulse ox and swabs if I felt that I thought it would be necessary. Although if positive it wouldn’t change the care I have been providing for my child, it would be helpful when I have other small children in my home and it is the holiday season and wouldn’t want to pass off something to serious to others. She did test positive for FLU B. I felt extremely pushed aside and denied appropriate care due to the fact my 6 month old has not had her vaccines yet and that may be against the providers own personal beliefs. I will never recommend this provider to anyone else nor will I ever take my children to her.
